The new EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) governs the entire life cycle of packaging with the aim of reducing waste and promoting the circular economy. It stipulates, among other things, that packaging must be recyclable, that certain types of packaging must contain minimum recycled content, and that material use must be minimized; in addition, reusable systems should be expanded. The regulation entered into force in February 2025 and has been mandatory for all stakeholders along the value chain since August 12, 2026. Since then, the first key regulations have come into effect. For you as a brand owner, designer, or processor, this means you must now rethink your packaging and its design. With finishing products from KURZ, we can already support you in aligning your packaging design with PPWR-relevant requirements - depending on the specific packaging concept and material composition.

The best part is that our transfer products for the printing industry are designed to be as resource efficient as possible and typically do not significantly impair the recycling process (depending on the substrate and the specific recycling stream). Furthermore, the ultra-thin decorative layer does not affect the compostability of recyclable printed materials in many applications. So, if you use the right materials and the right technology from the start, you will continue to enjoy effectively finished, customized packaging designs. Although we supply our customers with the decors on PET carriers, these are separated from the carrier film during the finishing process, so that no plastic film remains on the finished products. As part of our RECOSYS^® recycling program, KURZ takes back the processed carrier film residues and processes them in its in-house recycling plant into RECOSYS^® rPET, which has a wide range of applications - such as the production of yarn for technical textiles.
