An exhibition stand with a spectacular light show, smart technologies that look like something from the future, and eye-catching design innovations: At the IAA Mobility 2025 automotive trade fair in Munich, thin-film technology and surface finishing specialist LEONHARD KURZ thought beyond the limits of what was previously possible. In Hall A1 at Booth C21, KURZ, together with its subsidiaries BURG DESIGN and PolyIC, presented highlights such as the FrontIQ Light Concept, the Rear Light Concept, and a smart, sustainable center console, creating a truly wow experience. Surface solutions from KURZ make the difference – in terms of design aesthetics, durability, CO₂ footprint, and technological innovation.
KURZ impressed visitors to the automotive trade fair with a combination of design power, innovative strength, production readiness, and sustainability. Under the motto ‘Empowering beautiful surfaces,’ these special highlights took center stage at the trade fair booth, which was dominated by spectacular lighting architecture:
1. FrontIQ Light Concept
Together with Swarovski Mobility and SP3, KURZ realized the FrontIQ Light Concept – a forward-looking headlight architecture in which Swarovski crystals ensure precise light guidance and an impressive depth effect. The 3K IMD process combines decoration, protection, and function in a single production step – conserving resources, reducing CO₂ emissions, and offering potential integration into existing production lines. The result is striking, emotional designs with a focus on sustainability.
2. Rear Light Concept
Another groundbreaking innovation is the Rear Light Concept, which combines holographic micro structured light effects with a decorative and functional 3D component. Integrated mini-LEDs from ams OSRAM ALIYOS™ ensure a homogeneous, energy-efficient light pattern.
3. RECOSYS® rPET textiles for interiors
Another highlight of the trade fair presentation was the concept for a smart center console made of technical rPET textiles with intelligent, intuitive touch control. RECOSYS® rPET is suitable for the manufacture of high-quality technical textiles and opens up a wide range of possibilities for OEMs to pursue new approaches to interior design, for example by replacing conventional leather or wood trim. The Smart Center Console is operated via a hidden-til-lit touchpad with PolyTC® multitouch sensor.
4. Deep Black Surfaces
Deep black, low-reflection, and elegant: These surfaces improve the readability of digital displays and give them a high-quality look. Glass and plastic components blend seamlessly to create clear, homogeneous surface designs.
5. EcoLayer FX & Natural Fiber Decorations
EcoLayer FX showcases high-quality design effects on bio-based substrates such as cellulose PP or limestone PP – conserving resources without compromising on quality. Our sustainable and particularly aesthetically pleasing decorations from NFPP components also attracted a great deal of interest at the trade fair.
6. Visionary designs made from recycled materials: Digital Soft Glow, Jellyfish, Hydroverse
The visionary designers at KURZ have boldly and experimentally created new surface solutions using innovative materials, including recycled materials. Futuristic character and sustainability aspects go hand in hand.
