KURZ LABEL WEEKS: Large in-house trade fair was a huge success

Bringing the future of surface finishing to life and highlighting pioneering trends and innovative technologies for the label and packaging industry: That’s the challenging goal LEONHARD KURZ set for itself in summer 2022 - and which it confidently achieved by hosting the KURZ LABEL WEEKS in-house trade fair.

The past two years have rarely provided an opportunity for personal exchanges at live events. All the greater was the anticipation of the packaging industry for the leading trade fair Labelexpo, which was planned for April 2022 - and just as great was the disappointment when the event was canceled shortly beforehand. LEONHARD KURZ used this as an opportunity to take action and bring the industry together.

"Our motivation was to quench the thirst for personal, direct exchange - not via camera and microphone, but face-to-face.”

Stéphane Royère, Head of Business Area Packaging and Print at KURZ

Live demonstrations and individual finishing jobs

Between June 20 and December 9, 2022, KURZ threw open its doors to customer and partner companies, specialist media, and interested parties from the label and packaging industry, and invited them to its headquarters in Fürth. On more than 400 m², the thin-film specialist presented attractive, sustainable finishings as well as innovative processes and efficient machines. Live demonstrations gave visitors the opportunity to see the advanced technologies for themselves. A particular highlight was the possibility of implementing individual orders on site. All visitors could send their own substrate and specific designs to KURZ in advance. In Fürth, these individual jobs were then implemented together with KURZ employees - specifically tailored to the respective requirements.

Efficient, sustainable, and flexible

Hot stamping, cold transfer, and digital printing: During the KURZ LABEL WEEKS event, visitors gained comprehensive insights into the host’s extensive portfolio. Digital finishing was a focal point of the in-house trade fair. The latest metallization units of the Group were presented live at the trade fair: The DM-UNILINER 2D with the inkjet technology of the subsidiary MPRINT and the DM-UNILINER 3D of the subsidiary STEINEMANN DPE. Both modules offer the greatest possible flexibility as they can be used independently of the existing printing system and process. Another highlight was the presentation of the material-saving cold transfer unit DISTORUN®, which enabled the reprinting of free surfaces on already processed transfer products - entirely with sustainability in mind.

“I was particularly impressed by the DISTORUN® module and I will keep an eye on this topic. What’s more, the digital printing with the demonstrated systems was also fascinating and the results spoke for themselves.”

Functional labels are in

The packaging of the future impresses with high quality, impressive design, and sustainable finishing. In addition, it ideally offers added value as well. KURZ demonstrated how this is possible at its in-house trade fair. For example, the thin-film specialist KURZ and subsidiary SCRIBOS jointly developed a brand-new security label that offers reliable protection against counterfeiting and at the same time allows various interaction options or bonus programs for end customers to be integrated into the label. All stored information can be called up quickly and easily - all you need to do is scan the QR code on the label with your smartphone.

The thermotransfer division also had its own section at the trade fair. Thermal Transfer Ribbons (TTR) already enable efficient and sustainable label design. LEONHARD KURZ has further developed this technology and implemented additional functions: Using the new TTR Unique UV and TTR Unique VEROSPEC® processes, labels and other TTR prints can be equipped with security features that are individually tailored to each customer.

KURZ LABEL WEEKS met with great interest

Numerous customer and partner companies as well as interested industry and media representatives took the opportunity to find out about new finishings, future trends, and future-driven processes directly at the source. By the end of KURZ LABEL WEEKS on December 9, 2022, about 400 visitors from 19 countries had visited Fürth and had been able to personally experience KURZ’s comprehensive expertise - not only as a provider of transfer products, but above all of efficient, innovative machines.

"We are very pleased with the positive feedback and would like to thank all visitors for the great exchange of ideas and the exciting, informative discussions, which have given us many new insights. All our guests contributed to making KURZ LABEL WEEKS a very special event!"
