drupa 2024: What a show!

The time was ripe. After 8 long years, it was finally drupa time again in 2024! Under the theme Re:think what’s possible, KURZ presented exciting innovations, groundbreaking technologies, breathtaking designs, and visions from the world of finishing at the leading global trade fair in Düsseldorf. The spirits were high, and KURZ even celebrated a world premiere.

For LEONHARD KURZ, drupa 2024 was a success in every respect. Many contracts signed, machines sold, exciting prospects, interesting contacts, valuable conversations, and fantastic teamwork ensured an all-round successful trade fair appearance. ‘Re:think what’s possible’ - under this theme, the company presented unique finishing products and solutions from the fields of hot stamping, cold transfer, and digital finishing. However, the catchphrase is more than just a theme for the thin-film technology specialist: “We don't stop; we keep going. We push boundaries, and we dare to be unusual and innovative to shape the future of finishing. ‘Re:think what’s possible’ - our drupa theme sums up what we’re all about,” explains Markus Hoffmann, Executive Senior Vice President BAI and member of the Management Board.

Pushing possibilities and pioneering performance

KURZ sets trends, constantly develops products further, and goes beyond what seems possible. This creates new, surprising solutions for the graphics industry that push boundaries, unite seemingly opposite elements, and set completely new standards in the field of surface decoration. How is that possible?  KURZ presented the answer based on the five key topics of Creativity and Technology - falling in love, Virtuality and Reality - going on a date, Desire and Budget - becoming best friends, Security and Style - attracting each other, and Design and Sustainability - sharing one future. The focus on Creativity and Technology showed how breathtaking finishes are created thanks to innovative technology and effective transfer products, while Virtuality and Reality focused on digital solutions. Desire and Budget revealed how products become cost-effective eye-catchers. Security and Style focused on security features that are both safe and stylish. Of course, the focus was also on sustainability: With Design and Sustainability, the company showed that it not only lives up to its pioneering role in terms of design but also accepts responsibility for the environment. With RECOSYS® 2.0, the return and recycling system for embossed transfer materials generated during the decoration process, the company is coming ever closer to its vision of the closed loop.

Sustainability is a journey, not a destination. At drupa, KURZ clearly presented to visitors its path to an even more sustainable future.

Reaching the next level

Visitors were able to enjoy spectacular new products and unique finishes such as the brand-new, achromatic, and luxurious KURZ SILVER LINE®. The exclusive KURZ line is an eye-catcher at the POS as a symbol of luxury and aesthetics. Whether it’s full-surface decoration or individual, fine details – the new formulation, which offers all the advantages of the tried-and-tested LIGHT LINE® technology, turns creative ideas into reality. Design and finishing merge into a breathtaking symbiosis. Packaging and labels impress with their puristic high-gloss design and holographic structures. Special 3D effects provide visual depth and diffractive embossing creates exciting contrasts. In addition to SILVER LINE® and LIGHT LINE®, the finishing specialist also presented the semi-transparent LUMAFIN® line, which makes products stand out with unique, visual effects and a shimmering look. What’s more, KURZ also showed LUXOR®/ALUFIN®, the ultimate in metallic hot stamping. These classics offer brilliant, high-gloss metallizations, a variety of colors, and fascinating surface effects. ECOFIN® impressed with glamorous gold and silver tones. The new series for hot stamping and cold transfer impresses with its cost-efficiency without losing the typical KURZ features in terms of performance. All this has been combined with innovative security solutions to round off the KURZ portfolio.

Engineering the future of embellishment

KURZ subsidiaries Steinemann DPE, MPRINT, Hinderer + Mühlich (H+M) and KURZ Digital Solutions were also represented at the trade fair stand with their digital finishing and printing presses as well as embossing tools. Impressive live machine demonstrations rounded off the trade fair presentation. The highlight was the DM-MAXLINER 3D, the digital high-speed finishing system in sheet format, where inkjet-on-substrate technology provides high-gloss digital metallization, and UV spot and relief coating ensure the optimal look-and-feel experience. Visitors to the KURZ stand could look forward to receiving their free poster, finished live and in high quality with the DM-MAXLINER 3D. It represents an artwork as an expression of creative passion that unites the technologies of the KURZ world. Delicate structures, a pleasant feel, and brilliant looks appeal to the senses while 3D effects create an almost lifelike appearance. A shimmering hummingbird, finished with TRUSTSEAL® SFX and micro-embossing using the hot-stamping process, was the real eye-catcher. In addition to LIGHT LINE® Laser TS and the elegant Gold LUXOR® 385, matte structures finished via cold transfer conjure up exciting contrasts.

KURZ also celebrated a world premiere at drupa: The DM-MAXLINER 2D proved to be another highlight and sales magnet. The high-tech machine, which was presented to the world publicly for the first time at the trade fair, makes digital metallization possible on a wide variety of substrates.

Creativity and Technology - falling in love: In the highlight poster, creativity and technology merged in-to a breathtaking symbiosis. A love story of a special kind.

We need YOU YOU YOU!

But KURZ also had a top event of a special kind in store: A flash mob, with its rehearsed choreography, which took place several times a day, was an absolute crowd-puller. The performance provided a different kind of entertainment that was welcomed by all. “We were driven by a wonderful, unique team spirit throughout drupa, which was brought to life in a special way by the show. Our customers could also feel this spirit. This drupa was a very special experience, even from a personal perspective”, explains Julia Meier, Head of Marketing BAI.
