Digital finishing: What really matters

Freedom of design and process efficiency

Packaging specialist Edelmann is now relying on digital print finishing technology from KURZ subsidiary Steinemann DPE in St. Gallen. Its latest machine system, the DM-MAXLINER 3D, opens up entirely new possibilities for digital finishing with its two different finishing units. This means it precisely meets the requirements of the Edelmann Group, which specializes in high-quality cardboard and paper packaging solutions for the health care, beauty care, and consumer brands sectors.

Innovative and sustainable finishing

“For more than 100 years, the aim of the Edelmann Group has been to develop innovative and sustainable packaging solutions made from cardboard and paper with the highest quality standards. The DM-MAXLINER 3D sets new standards in terms of design freedom and process efficiency and was the obvious choice for us," explains Wolfram Hahn, Global Business Development Manager at Edelmann. “On the one hand, the system offers almost unlimited finishing options and is therefore ideal for strengthening the future-oriented positioning of our broad product portfolio. Secondly, the technology expands our options for providing packaging materials with sustainable, environmentally friendly effects.” Wolfram Hahn feels at ease with KURZ, especially when it comes to sustainability: “We appreciate the fact that, in KURZ, we have a partner at our side who places as much importance on sustainability as we do.”

One becomes two: optimal performance

Jordi Giralt, Sales Manager for Digital Embellishment at KURZ, sums up the advantages: “Carrying out two finishings in a single machine pass—digital metallization and digital spot coating as a relief with haptic effects—opens up a whole new world of creative design freedom for our customers, from delicate metallized lettering to spot highlights with a high-gloss surface, and even large-scale, textured vanishing. What’s more, the machine’s high performance also makes it suitable for medium and large batch sizes and truly speaks for itself. We are pleased to have Edelmann, a leading packaging manufacturer and system provider, among our customers and that the company is relying on our extensive experience in the field of digital print finishing.“
Over the past few years, KURZ has continuously expanded its portfolio of machine systems in the field of digital finishing for sheet printing (SRA3 to B1 formats) and roll-to-roll printing (from 210 mm width), and continuously optimized them in close cooperation with its customers. In addition to stand-alone solutions, the company also develops finishing units that can be optimally integrated into existing printing systems.
